There are 10 key pieces necessary in your wardrobe if you are interested in French style and want that “Parisian chic” look. At least that’s what I observed among my people…
On a scale from 0 to 10, how French are you? 🙂

Thumbs up if you liked this video!

New videos: Wednesday 5pm & Sunday 12pm (Paris/Berlin time).

Here is the series on dressing for your specific body type:

And here is my previous video about French style rules:

Key pieces mentioned:
– White shirt
– Tailored blazer
– Ballerinas or loafers
– (Little) black dress
– Perfect T-Shirt in several colors
– Turtleneck sweater in a cosy fabric
– Pair or dark blue jeans
– Huge scarf
– Purse where everything fits
– Back and pointy high heels

Take care!
Justine

I agree with you 100% on your last tip. I do that almost all the time. My thoughts are if it's still there when I come back then maybe I'll get it. Plus I have to agree with you on the rest of the video that's kind how I wear my make up.

The only items on this list I own are the scarf, the purse and the heels. I guess I'll go shopping now.

Where do you suggest finding these pieces in the States? I do some shopping online and on Poshmark, an online consignment shop, to save money. Any suggestions on brands that I can find here in the States? Thanks! Btw, I am 56 years young, slim figure BUT I'm not looking for brands that appeal to 20-somethings.

Finding the perfect t shirt is something I have struggled for a lot of years, I simply can't find a flowy flattering and comfortable t shirt. They are always cotton or jersey so they cling onto my body, the shoulders are always wrong and make me look like a man.. ? any suggestions of websites where to find a nice flowy fresh one? Thank you! ??

È la marinere? La maglietta a righe? Le francesi non la indossano più?

I have a white button shirt, a blazer, couple of ballerina flats, black dress (still finding one that isn't too formal for everyday wear), shirts in different colors (explained below), couple of cozy sweaters, scarf, and a purse to fit everything I need.
I don't wear jeans anymore, just feels weird to my skin, and I have black heels, but they're not pointy, too clumsy to wear pointy heels.

I have about 7-10 plain shirts I bought from H&M before (I know, bad idea, but they were my options before I found this channel) because I need plain shirts for work. I have them in dark navy, white, grey, and maroon. So I guess I'm good on that?

Very good tips. I just personally can't use turtlenecks or scarves because I hate having stuff around my neck. Also necklaces and chokers are a nono for me 😀

Justine, thank you for your excellent French series. I would like your opinion on makeup and the colour black for middle aged ladies. The red lipstick , very chique, might look a bit harsh on mature faces, as well as black against the face. What is your thoughts. Thank you. René

That was a good advice. Today I bought an expensive cardigan that I have been desiring for half a year. It's good quality and warm enough for fall and winter but it cost a lot.. It was a decision that was based on a lot of thinking.

    Dear Justine!

    I really like this video!
I always thought about white shirts as school uniforms and never really went for them. But seeing how versatile it can be changed my view about it.
I am trying to find a really nice one but not sure how should I choose.

Could you recommend me one or two maybe?
I don't mind spending more on this piece of clothing than I usually do.

Thanks in advance for your advice!
    Hugs from Hungary! 🙂

The grey big bag in the picture of 'huge handbag' category looks similar to Hermes Kelly but I don't think it is. Does anyone know what brand it might be? I love the style.

Ahh, I used to be very French but I've turned into something else haha… I used to wear a lot of classic neutrals and have flats to walk around in, but now I'm drawn to colours and loud patterns and my go-to shoes are my high black wedges (not really good for running when the kids get away, but I can walk in them for quite a while). Because I'm getting older, I think I need to re-visit my French side. It's a very elegant and timeless look.

I love this video and you have become my favorite you tube channel. I live in a very hot part of the US. Hint, its hurricane and rainy season. In Florida even CEO's wear casual. Oh something personal, I have now an autoimmune disease. I've staved myself to keep my older clothes I love. In the last month I decided to create a capsule collection and give away my wardrobe, which is so difficult, but I need clothes that fit me and you helped to accept who I am. I have a 26 year old daughter who is profoundly disabled and I love. My life went from chic to protective mum. You have encouraged me that I can be both. Thank you for your channel

Thanks for the delightful video. My problem: I have wide shoulders and chest, thin waist, hips, so just bought a denim maxi dress that buttons down the front and has angled side pockets. Had to get a larger size for upper body, but am swimming in it from the bust down. I tried belts, but the fabric just bunched up. Love the dress; should I get it altered? I truly know better, and usually get separates in two very different sizes. p.s. I'm 5'8" and of a 'certain age'. Merci. : o )

How about a video on lingerie? I'm under the impression that the French are much more careful to keep their underclothes and nighttime attire beautiful than we are here in America. I'd love to know if that's true.

I went to London last November and two French women approached me on my first day, looking for help navigating the tube. At the time, I thought they took me for English, someone who would know about the tube. But I've been watching your videos, and I typically (despite being American) wear very simple, natural hair, very little makeup except I'm a big fan of lipstick, black clothes, flat black shoes, and I was wearing an orange peacoat and a scarf. So now I wonder if they took me for French. They were very nice and it was fun figuring out the tube together. Despite my roughly 85% Brit ancestry, apparently I am very French.

I so love your logical and elegant European rules for fashion Justine. These tips help me to buy logically and even though buying quality costs more, it is economical in the long run. I also have a tip or a 5th question I ask myself when considering buying an item of quality. Over a year, how much will it really cost me daily if I buy an item?.. e.g. a great, large leather purse that I will wear almost daily may cost me $450 and has a daily cost of $1.25 for me. Well worth it. If I buy a dress that may cost me $350 and that I have only worn twice in a year has a daily cost of $175/day. Not worth it. Merci! Ildiko de Montreal (Québec, Canada).
