Creative bullet journal: how to start & initial setup | Justine Leconte

A bullet journal is a very personal thing. I decided to start bullet journaling and gather my to do’s, my memories and my creative diary all in one place. This tutorial shows how to make your own journal and how to do the setup and organize it. If this works out for me, I’ll show you my bullet journal in a run-through at the end of the month!
Plan with me: you have time until the end of March to setup your own bullet journal, so you can start April together with me if you wish!

Thumbs up if you liked this video 🙂

New videos: Wednesday 17:00 & Sunday 12:00 (Paris/Berlin time).

How you watched my video from last week about French style in 10 tips?

Take care!

– Paper, fabric or plastic to build your covers
– White pages and a binding (or a ready-to-use notebook with spiral binding)
– Something to make the closure (e.g. ribbons to tie, sew, cut, button, zipper…)
– Tape, double-sided tape, crafts glue, fabric glue, all-purpose glue, scissors, metal ruler, cutter, cutting mat
– Pens: I used black ink by Faber Castell and Micron (0.05mm and 1mm)
– Watercolor and brushes with a water reserve so that you don’t have to dip a brush into the water anymore
– Water-based markers (don’t use regular design markers because they will bleed through your pages if they are not maker paper pages!)
– Decoration tape in several colors
– An envelop to attach to your notebook if you wish
… and any other materials you’d like to use or try!
Your bullet journal is your chance to experiment with new media 🙂

WOW I am ashamed… To be honest I NEVER heard of a bullet journal before! Let alone using one…
So all I have is a planner but it's never creative and colorful enough for my overthinking self!

Dear Justine, this video is inspiring af, thanks for opening my eyes again! I'll definitely start my first bullet journal right now, love you! ?

You have such a creative ,genius mind, Justine! I'm so interested in this creation of yours and thoroughly marvel at that brain of yours.
I so wish I could do something like this…that alone would be an accomplishment! I'm afraid it's out of reach for me. I need a premade journal . You are such an amazing, smart, creative person. And I agree: so inspiring.
I love the content of your videos cause you help me to think!
You're truly amazing, Justine. So happy you are here and available to us. What a treat!

One thing I appreciate about you since you are a non-native English speaker is that you don't overembellish an explanation with an hour of talking or throw too much slang in or overshare about your emotional state like many YouTubers. You are very good at explaining a concept so that the majority of people can understand you and you are excellent at keeping things simple and easy to follow.

Hi Justine! I struggle a little bit with motivation for blogging, but I would call it writing. So I thought your bullet journal is a great idea. I already got a nice notebook, colored pencils and…. let's start creating something great!

Love this idea. It is very organized. I have 4 Moleskin sketchbooks and a calendar that I use at all times. 2 are watercolor in 2 sizes and same sketchbooks in 2 sizes. Then I have a calendar that I keep track of my events. As an artist, I carry the small ones in my handbag for impromptu sketches and the large ones for more creative work. I am a firm believer that journals open the creative mind. You are a fun and inspirational person to watch and I enjoy your videos. Thank you for your films!

I generally buy a calendar book – from the same brand every year because I like the layout and it still gives me room for creativity… but this idea with a blank notebook and making my own is very appealing… maybe 2018 ☺️

Love the idea watercolor with brushes. Is it a very little brush, or a pen at time 3:05 (the red one with blue watercolor)? Want to get one of these! Thank you for sharing such lovely idea for bullet journal.

This seems so interesting! Question: what do you do when you finish writing and drawing in the notebook (when it is full)? Does it get stored in some kind of way? Do you keep the bullet journal? The bullet journal sounds like a fun way to mix 2 of my favorite things – planning and drawing, and also, maybe it will motivate me to draw more as I was an art student in highschool, but I don't draw as much anymore (sad) .
